Very interesting, as always, David. Had almost forgotten these organisations ever existed.

I don't think ideological organisations, such as terrorists, ever really reach a complete endpoint, certainly not while their fundamental objectives remain unresolved. There always seems to be a resolute remnant whose mission is never over, and the capitulation of their peers only serves to reinforce the zeal to achieve what they first set out to do.

The IRA is a case in point, with derivatives of the redefined militant organisation engaging in the legitimate world of politics; community level power plays including acting as the self-appointed arbiters of social discipline and justice, such as knee-capping drug dealers, street racers, and petty criminals (by appointment, no less!); and a relatively silent militant core who are more than willing to re-engage as and when required.
