Ruud Gullit's response to "blackface" proves racism allegations losing power
Proof the anti-racism movement is losing all credibility and authority
Ruud Gullit is one of the Netherlands’ best-loved and most-iconic footballers. He also famously dedicated his 1987 Balon d’Or win to Nelson Mandela and has a long history of speaking out on race issues. So you’d expect him to go Woke and condemn the Dutch fans waring “blackface” masks of him? Of course not. He’s actually honoured by it.
Back in 2020-21, any hint of alleged “racism” even going back decades was enough to ruin one’s life and reputation following BLM-inspired hysterical witchhunts. The manufactured graffiti controversy after Euro 2020 was the apex of it. However, we’re now seeing the authority of anti-racist ideology collapse before our eyes. When someone like Ruud Gullit, who has a long history of speaking out, doesn’t buy into these Woke allegations, nobody is listening to them anymore.
The Netherlands has become one of the epicentres of resistance to Woke ideology, deeply ironic given its longstanding reputation as one of the West’s most permissive and progressive societies. This is evident in political trends in the most recent parliamentary and European elections, the success of Geert Wilders’ PVV and other right-leaning parties.
Where racism allegations were once sufficient to destroy a person’s life, today fewer people are paying heed to this destructive and ruinous cult. Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter (now X) has had an impact, but October 7 again comes into play: the progressive movement is in crisis as a result of its wholehearted embrace of Islamist violence. More to it, the anti-racist/decolonial/BLM crowd is littered with virulent anti-Semites, which was long known before October 7 but ignore by its liberal allies. Increasingly they are viewed by liberals as a liability.
Last but not least, the entire moral regime of anti-racism and anti-fascism enacted in the 60s is now falling apart as a result of the above. The pendulum may be swinging, but the results of this are yet to be fully realised.
Woke ideology is a doctrine of hate and incomprehensible stupidity that, if not eviscerated, will render the Western world an impotent, unviable civilisation.
The global disgrace of pervasive anti-Semitism is not only an extreme threat to the Jewish people and the very existence of the democratic nation of Israel, it is a malignancy that has exposed just how morally bankrupt the developed World has become.
The glimmer of hope we are seeing emerge throughout Europe is extremely encouraging, but as the invective rages on throughout the West, an ideological recalibration still appears to be more aspiration than actualisation.
