Liberals, this is not your war

What we are fighting for is not what you think we are fighting for - because you do not and never will understand this part of Europe

The Russian Army is now indiscriminately shelling residential areas in the "Equator" district of Kharkiv. Russian continues to show no concern about the civilian population in Ukraine. These are Russian war crimes! 🇺🇦

I have been thinking about how to begin this. Anything concerning Central and Eastern Europe, past and present, is deeply personal for me. It’s where my ancestors are from. It’s the harrowing experiences of these nations, who have had to overcome Communist tyranny and regain their freedom. All of this shaped what I became as a person, as well as having to live in Australia where our freedoms are under constant threat from a Left which has advanced itself into every segment of our society.

And hence why I abhor what modern Russia, under the megalomaniac Vladimir Putin, represents with naked aggression against Ukraine and its failure to recognise the barbarity of Soviet Communism for what it truly was - the biggest killer in human history. I abhor Western liberals who have taken so much from Soviet active measures over the decades to give us “white guilt”, multiculturalism, indigenism and moral relativism.

And because of that, I have to tell you: you don’t get it and you will never get it. What we are and what we stand for.

Central and Eastern Europeans - Ukrainians, Czechs, Slovaks, Poles, Hungarians, et al - are not woke. There’s no historical guilt, Political Correctness kind of crap there. They are at the forefront of defending freedom not only in Europe, but around the world. Because they had to fight for their freedom in the first place.

The West’s Woke plague has its roots in the aftermath of World War II. The elites came to the conclusion that nationalism was a bad idea. So internationalism, universalism and multiculturalism became a thing, a kind of new religion to replace Judeo-Christian morality and the achievements of the English-speaking world which was now deemed “racist” and “imperialist”.

The wrong lessons were learned. Poland was invaded in World War II, partitioned and occupied by Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union, its population subject to exceptional brutality by both occupying powers. The Baltic states were illegally occupied by the Soviet Union for 50 years and subject to humiliation, colonisation and deportation. And Ukraine was subject to a campaign of genocide, including man-made famine and one of the most vicious religious persecutions in modern history.

This is why Ukrainians not only fear and resent Russian domination, but also have shown exceptional courage in fighting to defend their country - so much that the war has so far looked disastrous for Putin. We don’t know yet what outcome will eventuate from this.

But I do know that nobody will ever get the message. This is a war for us, European nations and peoples, fighting for survival. It is not a war for you to advance your pet causes. It is not a war for bleeding heart liberals. Nationalism and religion motivate many Ukrainians to fight for what they have.

The very thing that you liberals have tried to sap out of the West over recent decades is the reason Ukrainians are not rolling over. If you like to think that a country like Australia was “invaded” in 1788 and subject to an alleged “genocide” - well Ukraine is being invaded now, and fighting to prevent a return of the Stalinist era genocidal campaign.

It’s the war for us, free European peoples. It’s NOT your war to fight. Get the message.
