As Medvedev threatens Russia's neighbours, a Congressman emulates his behaviour
Did Medvedev and Garcia deny their true feelings?
No longer Prime Minister of Russia, Dimitry Medvedev made a revealing social media post which was subsequently deleted and blamed on a “hack”: he denied that Georgia and Kazakhstan had a right to exist as nations, entirely consistent with his recent rants towards Ukraine, Poland and the Baltic states. Few believe that Medvedev was hacked, and fewer still believe that Putin and his cohorts would disapprove of the message.
Kazakhstan will feel vindicated in its recent moves, but Medvedev’s “moment” of truth will seal the fate of post-Soviet institutions such as the CIS, EAEU and CSTO as member states fear for their sovereignty and stability. While Medvedev fantasises about a full imperial restoration, the exact opposite may happen: Russia will face separatism within its own borders.
Similarly, progressive Illinois Democrat congressman Chuy Garcia blamed a staffer for an offensive tweet aimed at a critic. Even if the staffer in question no longer works for Garcia, many are suspicious that the staffer simply took the fall because the Congressman’s true feelings (and that of other “progressive” Democrats) are being revealed.
Is this another example of a classic “active measure” tactic that Russia has pioneered and exported? China has also blamed “temporary workers” for alleged hiccups on government websites. A consistent pattern emerges.
